Gov. Perry: Religion, Politics Mix

Gov. Rick Perry says the idea that laws shouldn't be informed by religion is an extreme position.

"Freedom of religion is not to be confused with freedom from religion," Perry said Sunday during remarks at New Life Christian Center in San Antonio.

Perry told church members that a great spiritual battle was under way for the future of the state and nation. The Republican governor said people of faith need to be actively engaged in the public arena, according to a report in Monday's editions of the San Antonio Express-News.

Perry noted that he prays every day for President Barack Obama "that God will touch his heart, that he will open his eyes."
