Veteran's Service Dog Returns Home After 4 Days Lost

Bob Malone and his service dog, Carmen, were reunited Monday after almost four days apart, when Carmen ran away after being frightened by traffic. “She jumped out of the truck and ran into the woods, and I couldn’t get to her,” Malone said. Malone served in Vietnam starting in 1963, and doesn’t like to talk much about what happened. He said his eardrums were blown out by explosives, and that he suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder. Carmen, provided by the Halifax Humane Society through the Veterans Administration, changed his life. “She senses that I’m like not very relaxed, she’ll crawl up in my lap and lay there until she senses that I’m feeling better,” he said.
