How George Michael Helped Give Us ‘Carpool Karaoke'

Call it the first 'Carpool Karaoke.'

Back in 2011, before the sketch became a late-night smash success on the 'Late Late Show with James Corden,' Corden was driving around in his car when he got a call from Comic Relief to come in right away for an emergency meeting.

"I'm spending a day with a mate, he's been away for a while," Corden said.

The mate? George Michael.

Over the next few minutes, Corden and Michael lay the groundwork for what would become a recurring sketch on Corden's show: funny banter, music on the car radio, and Corden and a superstar belting out the tunes together.

Michael, who died in his home at 53 on Sunday, sang the Wham! hit "I'm Your Man" in the sketch with Corden.
