A Kentucky man accused of fatally cutting the throat of his 3-year-old niece faced a judge for the first time Tuesday.
Emanuel Fluter, 33, is accused of slashing Josephine Bulubenchi's throat over the weekend while she was sleeping. She died in a Kentucky hospital more than a day after the attack.
Fluter is charged with murder, assault and four counts of wanton endangerment.
Clinton County Sheriff Jim Guffey said Josephine's father heard her scream on a baby monitor Saturday morning and rushed in to try to disarm Fluter, receiving a cut on his hand.
There were four other children in the room when the attack took place, according to the arrest citation.
A not guilty plea was entered on Fluter's behalf.
