Tuskegee Airman Honored

A member of the legendary World War II Tuskegee Airmen was honored in Wilbraham, Massachusetts Wednesday afternoon. Air Force Sgt. James Sowell is now 94 years old and lives at Wingate Nursing Home in Wilbraham. Congressman Richard Neal presented Sgt. Sowell with a Congressional Gold Medal. Sgt. Sowell served during World War II with African-American fighter and bomber pilots, who affectionately became known as “The Tuskegee Airmen.” “It’s a wonderful, wonderful celebration. He did good, he did exactly what he needed to do, where he was supposed to do and I’m very proud of him,” daughter Adrian Sowell said.
