Dr. Tom Frieden, director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, addressed reporters Tuesday, more than a week after Thomas Eric Duncan was hospitalized with Ebola in Dallas.
A week has passed since a man was hospitalized in Dallas with the deadly Ebola virus. That brings known contacts with a Dallas Ebola patient into what a top Texas health official calls "a very sensitive period" for development of any symptoms.
Health officials are monitoring 48 possible contacts, of which 10 are high-risk contacts. In a telephone conference with federal health officials, Texas health commissioner Dr. David Lakey said no fever or other signs of illness have been found in those 48. He said all continue to be monitored.
Dr. Tom Frieden, director of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, assured that health officials know how to stop the virus from spreading. He assured that the virus is very stable and is still spread by direct contact.
