State Emergency Management Explains Evacuee Consolidation

The State Office of Emergency Management took evacuees from some 40 hotels and consolidated down to eight across the metroplex. They said this allows for easier access to services such and food and medical care. But during the consolidating process, people said there’s been widespread confusion. Emergency management said planning for the consolidation began last week.As of ‪Thursday afternoon‬, they’d taken more than 60,000 calls – well over the number of people they’re sheltering. Many said they appreciate the state for the assistance, but if the process were smoother, people could focus more on rebuilding and less on where they’ll sleep next. NBC 5’s Candace Sweat reports.
