Southwest Airlines flight 424 from Baltimore to Chicago was diverted to Columbus, Ohio after instruments indicated a possible fire in the cargo hold. Passengers and crew evacuated via the emergency slide.
A Southwest Airlines plane made an emergency landing at Port Columbus International Airport because a fire-indicator light came on.
The Columbus Dispatch reports Southwest Flight 424 from Baltimore to Chicago safely landed around 11:30 p.m. Tuesday.
Upon landing, the emergency slide was deployed and 49 passengers and five crew members evacuated the plane.
Southwest said crews were able to determine there was, in fact, smoke in the forward cargo hold.
Port Columbus vice president of business development and communications David Whitaker said passengers were safely evacuated, and the plane was inspected. No problems were found.
Whitaker said Southwest is working with getting passengers to their destinations.
