Six Flags Celebrates Opening of State-of-the-Art Justice League Ride

Six Flags’ newest ride, “Justice League: Battle for Metropolis”, opens this weekend. It uses state-of-the-art technology to put riders in the middle of the action.

Think you have what it takes to be a superhero? Six Flags Over Texas' newest ride will give you a chance to prove yourself.

The highly anticipated "Justice League: Battle for Metropolis" uses state-of-the-art technology to immerse riders in an action packed fight between good and evil.

"This is a world class dark ride," said Jim Hall, a theme park enthusiast and ride expert. "It's one of a kind."

Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, The Flash and The Green Lantern joined park staff, the media and other VIP guests Tuesday to cut the ribbon on the ride, which opens to the general public on Saturday.

"We wanted to bring a high quality ride to Six Flags Over Texas that would be able to bring families together," said Steve Martindale, president of Six Flags Over Texas. "Roller coasters are great. But not everybody loves roller coasters. There are people that would rather do something else that's fun and thrilling but doesn't go way up in the air. This ride certainly delivers that."

As riders enter the Hall of Justice, they learn supervillains Lex Luthor and The Joker have kidnapped several members of the Justice League as part of an evil plan to take over the city.

Equipped with 3D glasses and laser guns, riders then team up with Batman and Superman to save the day.

The ride vehicles twist and turn 360 degrees, as they carry riders to more than a dozen interactive, 3D screens where they earn points by hitting the bad guys. Riders also encounter life-size animatronics and special effects.

"You even get the fire elements and the fog," said Hall. "Six Flags really pulled out all the stops on this one."

The ride was designed by Sally Manufacturing, which has created attractions for theme parks across the world, including Universal Studios Orlando. They partnered with Oceaneering and Alterface to bring the ride to life.

A popular blog called Theme Park Insider named Justice League: Battle for Metropolis the most anticipated new attraction of 2015. The Travel Channel also highlighted the ride on its list of the best amusement park rides in 2015.

"Based on everything I'm hearing from every single person that gets off [the ride], we're going to meet that expectation," said Martindale.

Riders with whom NBC 5 spoke Tuesday had good things to say.

"I don't like roller coasters, but that ride is amazing," said Kay Webb, who lives in Arlington. "It was very fun."

Six Flags Over Texas Gold Pass Holders will be able to check out the ride on Thursday, and all season pass holders can experience it on Friday before the ride officially opens Saturday.
