More mosquito traps are being sent to Rowlett after a possible human case of West Nile virus was reported in the area.
The case remains unconfirmed for now, but Dallas County Health and Human Services says the diagnosis could change in the days ahead after further study.
The county could begin targeted spraying in Rowlett, if any mosquitos there test positive for West Nile virus.
Parents of young children in Rowlett aren’t taking any chances.

“I have a bottle of mosquito repellent in my truck, in my purse in the diaper bag”, says Denise Sylva of Rowlett, who was enjoying Lake Ray Hubbard with her family. “I put it on this morning and then again when we got here. So I make sure it’s on at all times.”
Sylva is doing exactly what Dallas County health officials recommend.
“This is the heat of summer, more people will be outside we’re asking residents to protect themselves” says Zachary Thompson, Dallas County Health and Human Services director.
So far this year, the city of Dallas is the only place in the county reporting a positive mosquito pool.
