Gov. Perry Pitches “Return to Conservatism” in Column

Texas Governor Rick Perry made a case for what he calls a "return to our fiscally conservative roots" in today's edition of the Washington Times.

Perry argues recent stimulus spending "is not driven by compassion, but from an unspoken belief that Americans are not smart enough to govern their own lives, strong enough to take some risk or compassionate enough to help neighbors in need."

The Governor continued by using examples from Texas' budget turnaround to claim similar policies could be enacted throughout the nation to curb deficits.

Cynics may argue this is Perry's play for a larger presence in Washington politics, but Perry's point is clear, conservatives in name only have no friend in Texas' Governor.
