Ponder Man Wins $1 Million Playing Powerball

A Ponder man is $1 million richer after checking some of his old lottery tickets.

Scott McDaniel said he'd heard there was a million-dollar winner in Ponder while cashing in some scratch-off tickets, but he had no idea he was the winner.

“I had some tickets in my truck and also in our house at home, so I went home and checked them,” McDaniel said in a news release from the Texas Lottery. “The tickets in the truck did not win, but the ones I left on my table saw had the winning ticket.”

McDaniel matched all five numbers (15 — 27 — 31 — 34 — 48) but not the Powerball (1) for the drawing held May 31.

Had he picked the Powerball, McDaniel would have won $173 million.  Instead, it rolled over to the next drawing.

McDaniel told the Texas Lottery there was divine intervention in his win, “I don’t believe in luck. This is just one of many of God’s blessings in my life.”

The next Powerball drawing is Wednesday and is worth an estimated $50 million.
