Oak Cliff Neighbors See Proposals for I-35 Deck Park

Dallas built one giant deck park in the form of Klyde Warren Park, and now it's hoping for another over Interstate 35E.

The idea is to build a park over I-35E between Beckley and Ewing avenues to connect the Dallas Zoo and downtown Oak Cliff.

The deck park idea is part of a larger effort to improve the city's so-called Southern Gateway.

Dozens of residents learned about the idea at a special meeting Tuesday evening, where they saw several proposed renderings.

"To have a bridge like that would enable some of the benefits to spill over into some of those poorer neighborhoods over there, so I think that helps everybody," said Oak Cliff resident Bobbi Smith.

Texas Department of Transportation officials are still considering a possible design.
