Naked Man Leaves Billboard Perch

After spending about four hours atop a Fort Worth billboard threatening to jump, a naked man has returned to ground level.

The man climbed up onto a billboard along the 2300 block of West 7th Street at about noon Monday, drawing stares and stopping traffic near Montgomery Plaza.  Police arrived a short time later and began trying to talk the man off the top of the billboard, where he precariously paced back and forth.

NBCDFW's Deborah Ferguson overheard officers talking with the man at the scene, asking him to sit down.  Ferguson said the man told police he had no family and that everyone was gone.

At about 3:30 p.m., the man came down from the top of the billboard to the platform base, and then eventually made his way down a firefighter's ladder to the ground.

So far, the Fort Worth police have not issued a formal statement on the man or his situation.  The man was taken into police custody once returning to the ground, and taken to John Peter Smith Hospital for further evaluation.

The incident was the talk of Fort Worth's newest entertainment district.

7th Haven, a bar near the billboard, took immediate advantage of the situation changing their sign to say "Position available, now hiring, crazy naked person to stand on our sign, no exp req'd, apply within." (see 7th Heaven Sign image above or click here.)

We think we know where the Fort Worth man got the idea.  This is the second such incident of a naked man on a billboard in Dallas in as many months.  In March, traffic along John Carpenter Freeway was a standstill while a man did a billboard boogie, naked, on a Friday afternoon. In that incident, firefighters were able to retrieve the man, who was then taken for a psychological evaluation.

NBCDFW's Deborah Ferguson contributed to this report.
