Motorcyclist Who Led Police on Chase in Southeast Texas Dies

A Houston man has died after crashing his motorcycle while leading police on an eight-mile chase in Southeast Texas.

Texas Department of Public Safety officials told The Galveston County Daily News that a trooper had tried to pull over 24-year-old Tyler Barela on Saturday night on Interstate 45 for driving at a speed of more than 130 mph and weaving in and out of traffic.

DPS officials say Barela refused to pull over and lost control of his motorcycle near I-45 in La Marque. Troopers say the bike swerved into a grassy area and Barela was flung more than 100 feet from his motorcycle.

He was airlifted to a hospital with severe head injuries.  He died Sunday afternoon.
