Mesquite police say they were involved in a chase with an armed man that came to an end on U.S. Highway 80 in Sunnyvale Monday afternoon.

Mesquite police say they were involved in a chase with an armed man that came to an end on U.S. Highway 80 in Sunnyvale Monday afternoon.

Mesquite Police Sgt. Brian Parrish said police were investigating James Ledenham for vehicle burglary and got a tip that he was at a Wells Fargo Bank in Mesquite.

Police say when officers arrived at the bank, Ledenham put a gun to his head and fled the area in his pickup.

Chopper 5 showed the white pickup trying to elude stop sticks placed in the highway at least twice.

The two driver's side tires were flattened, slowing the chase down along the shoulder, Ledenham slowly took the next exit and came to a stop near State Highway 352 in Sunnyvale.

Mesquite police officers communicated with Ledenham by phone.

Eastbound and westbound lanes of U.S. Highway 80 were shut down as Mesquite SWAT arrived on the scene to assist.

Ledenham surrendered to police and was taken into custody without incident. No word on what charges Ledenham might face. At 4 p.m. Monday, police said Ledenham was in Mesquite police custody and being "evaluated."
