Melissa Parents Pray Students Can Focus On First Day Amid Scandal

Students in Melissa headed back to school Monday, as two former educators have been arrested for having inappropriate relationships with minors.

About a dozen parents prayed outside Melissa High School on the first day of classes Monday morning to show support for the student at the center of a scandal involving two school employees.

Band director Michael Reddell was arrested for having an inappropriate relationship with a 16-year-old female student. He is facing serious charges, including sexual assault.

Economics teacher Darrell Glenn Whitten was also arrested for having an inappropriate relationship with the same student. He is facing several charges, including indecency with a child.

The district has trained counselors on hand Monday to help any students who are having trouble dealing with the allegations.
