Andy Allison, a Lewisville firefighter who was electrocuted on duty 2 years ago, retired Friday at age 31 due to his injuries. The fire department hosted a retirement ceremony in his honor.
Hundreds of friends, family members and fellow lifesavers came together Friday to celebrate, possibly, the Lewisville Fire Department’s youngest retiree.
Firefighter Andy Allison, 31, was forced to retire after he was electrically shocked on a call in August 2012. Allison was putting out hotspots after a house fire when his hose struck a live electrical unit.
His injuries, which included a broken back, proved to be career-ending.
Departments from across the Metroplex sent representatives to Friday's retirement ceremony that included a full bagpipe sendoff, dozens of fire engines displaying the American flag and a traditional call over the city-wide radio system thanking Allison for his service and clearing him of his duty.
Allison’s father, also a retired Lewisville firefighter, even got to present the American flag to his son.
Allison told the crowd he had no regrets and that if he had to go out on another call to save lives that resulted in the same outcome for him, he’d do it in a heartbeat.
