Drivers on Interstate 635, the LBJ Expressway, will have a shift in their morning commute starting Tuesday.
The LBJ Express project is opening permanent lanes on I-635 between the Dallas North Tollway and Preston Road.
The lane shift began Monday night around 8 p.m. and was scheduled to be completed by rush hour Tuesday, but the switch lead to significant backups along I-635 Tuesday morning.
Traffic was reduced to one lane on the eastbound side and ramps connecting I-635 to the DNT and Preston Road were closed for a significant amount of time overnight.
The traffic headache will finally put drivers on the permanent, final lane configuration of the LBJ Express project in that area.
