LBJ Reopens After Crash, Spill

Fuel spill on roadway closes highway for hours

LBJ Freeway partially closed Saturday morning between Josey and Marsh Lane after an overnight crash spilled diesel fuel onto the highway.

An overnight crash spilled diesel fuel onto I-635 LBJ Freeway, closing part of the highway for more than seven hours early Saturday.

The westbound lanes of I-635 between Josey and Marsh Lane closed from 2 a.m. until about 9:30 a.m. when two lanes were reopened to traffic.

One car skidded out of control on the fuel and caused a few other minor wrecks before the roadway was shutdown.

Cleanup crews used sand to soak up the spilled fuel, but waited for it to dry before re-opening the lanes. Traffic was diverted onto the frontage road.

NBC 5's Mark Schnyder contributed to this report.
