Attorneys representing the parents of one of the girls who died in a bus crash last month have filed a lawsuit Tuesday morning in Tarrant County.
The parents of Brooke Deckard are suing both the trucking company and the driver of the 18-wheel tractor-trailer that crossed the median on Interstate 35 in Oklahoma and crashed into the bus carrying the North Central Texas College women's softball team.
The lawsuit alleges that the driver, 53-year-old Russell Staley of Saginaw, Texas, was driving distracted and failed to maintain control of his vehicle. It also says that the company, Quickway Carriers, was negligent to let Staley drive.
According to the lawsuit, they are requesting a jury trial and are seeking more than $1 million in damages.
The crash took the lives of Deckard,20, along with Jaiden Pelton,20; Meagan Richardson,19, and Katelynn Woodlee,18.
