Road repairs needed after recent rain has caused a traffic nightmare for drivers across North Texas. On Thursday, Fort Worth’s I-35W northbound was brought to a standstill after pavement problems at the S.H. 287 exit.
The recent rain was still snarling traffic on Interstate 35W on Thursday.
The water worked its way under the pavement, creating a big pothole. Texas Department of Transportation crews shut down a northbound lane at the U.S. 81/287 exit to repair the pavement failure.
Traffic on Thursday morning stretched from downtown Fort Worth all the way to the lane closure. The best way to avoid the mess seemed to be back roads.
A similar situation happened on a bridge over Interstate 20 in Dallas on Wednesday afternoon, resulting in debris falling from the bridge onto the road below. Crews worked on the road on Thursday and will continue to make repairs on Monday.
Drivers aired complaints about the Tarrant County road troubles at gas stations right off I-35W.
"It was just stressful, because you just have to get there on time," Lydia Rios said, "[It] just delays you from everything -- picking up kids from school, taking care of errands."
"It was horrible; spent two hours here," Denise Novy said. "I thought I was going to run out of gas."

She said some drivers even got out of their cars, while others turned their cars off.
TxDOT expects to wrap up the work on I-35W on Wednesday evening.
