GE Moving 950 Jobs to Fort Worth

Officials in Erie County, Penn., say GE Transportation plans to eliminate as many as 950 northwestern Pennsylvania jobs and move them to the company's new facility in Fort Worth.

The Erie Times-News reports that County Executive Barry Grossman delivered the news Tuesday morning.

GE Transportation is Erie's largest employer. The company builds coal mining equipment and has been hit by a slump in the mining business.

Local unions had expressed concern about a possible shift to Fort Worth, saying nonunion employees there earn substantially less than their union counterparts in Erie.
