Fort Worth Resident Shoots Man He Says Tried to Enter His Home

A Fort Worth resident shot a man who was lurking in front of his home early Wednesday morning, police say.

A man is in critical condition in a Fort Worth hospital after a homeowner says he shot him as he tried to enter his front door.

Fort Worth police said the homeowner was smoking a cigarette inside his garage on the 8500 block of Cove Meadow Lane just after midnight when, through a camera app on his phone, he saw a man turning the knob on his front door.

The homeowner, believing the man to be a burglar, shot through the front door, striking the man in the neck, wrist and arm, Fort Worth Police Officer Tracy Carter said in a statement.

The wounded man was transported to John Peter Smith hospital in critical condition -- his current condition is not known.

The investigation into the shooting is ongoing and no further information has been released.
