Country crooner Randy Travis now faces a criminal charge of driving while intoxicated in Grayson County stemming from an incident last August near Tioga.
The Grayson County District Attorney's charge alleges that Travis had a blood-alcohol content of greater than 0.15, making the charge a Class A misdemeanor, punishable by up to two years in jail and a $4000 fine.
"The case has taken some time because of blood tests that have been completed by both the prosecution and the defense," said Grayson County District Attorney Joe Brown in a news release. "The parties have also been actively negotiating on resolving the case, and we anticipate that we will resolve the matter in a short time period. The filing of this charge allows us to get the case into court, in order to finalize the case as soon as we can."
Travis was also arrested for a felony charge of retaliation, after officers said he threatened to shoot and kill the troopers working the case.
That charge has not been filed at this point, but remains under investigation according to Grayson County. No court setting on the newly filed case has been scheduled. A preliminary hearing will be scheduled in the coming days.
