Woman with Dementia Missing After 7-Alarm Fire in Dallas

Police said a woman who has dementia is missing after a large fire heavily damaged a 60-unit condo building in Dallas.

Dallas Fire-Rescue reported an elderly woman is unaccounted for after a fire that raced through a 60-unit condominium building in northwest Dallas.

The fire broke out at the Preston Place complex in the 6200 block of West Northwest Highway around 11:30 p.m. Friday. As of 10:00 p.m. Saturday, firefighters were still putting water on hot spots.

Dallas police issued a Critical Missing Person's alert for 89-year-old Jacqueline McDonald. She was last seen around the time of the fire.

Officers said she suffers from dementia and could be confused. McDonald is a white female with gray hair and brown eyes. She is 5 feet, 6 inches tall and weighs 120 pounds.

DFR spokesperson Jason Evans said firefighters arrived to see smoke coming from the inside. The incident quickly escalated to a 7-alarm fire.

Evans said mostly elderly people live at Preston Place. Paramedics took one person whose medical issues heightened because of the fire and heavy smoke. But they are expected to recover.

Evans said most of the residents escaped unharmed. 

The American Red Cross responded to help the displaced residents.

Evans said 170 firefighters worked to contain and extinguish the fire.

Investigators said the building is not stable enough for them to go inside and try to find the cause. [[415397863,C]]
