Chase Through Dallas County Ends in Ellis County

A chase involving Ellis County sheriff's deputies and state troopers ended Tuesday evening in Ellis County after twisting through parts of Dallas County.

The pursuit wound through Dallas, Red Oak, Glenn Heights, Lancaster, DeSoto, Waxahachie and Ovilla before coming to an end at Westmoreland and Bob White roads near Ovilla.

The chase began after police were called to an Ellis County home because of an argument between Charles Ziebolz, 22, and his father.

"We have had previous dealings with the suspect, who has been known to carry a weapon," Ellis County Sheriff's Lt. James Saulter said.

Deputies said Ziebolz had already taken off in his father's car and was down the street when they arrived.

"The deputies went to make a traffic stop on him to find out what was going on," Saulter said. "At that time, the suspect ran from us."

The wild pursuit went from Ellis County through Dallas and several other municipalities. Police at one point managed to bump the suspect's car, but he kept right on going.

Finally, near Ovilla, police surrounded the driver. They swarmed the car, pulled Ziebolz from the vehicle and cuffed him.

The Ellis County Sheriff's Office said deputies are familiar with the suspect.

"He was just arrested last week and had a knife in his possession," Saulter said. "And again, this is our first responding deputies out here, and not knowing what occurred at the house is the reason we went after him."

Police were told the driver may be impaired. Investigators said they found marijuana in the car.

Ziebolz was booked into jail on a charge of evading arrest. He is expected to be arraigned Wednesday.

In 2008, he was arrested on three assault charges and two charges of evading arrest.

Dallas County deputies assisted in the chase.
