Crews in Denton Prepare for Winter Weather

In Denton, police closed a portion of Loop 288 Wednesday morning, after five accidents, blamed on icy roads. A bridge was closed for about an hour, until TxDOT crews could put down sand on the slick road surface. City of Denton street crews spent the day preparing for icy weather. Five trucks are loaded with sand, equipped with spreaders and ready to be dispatched to areas where they’re needed. Operations crews are working around the clock, surveying roads and checking for ice. “We’re trying to stay ahead of it,” said Daniel Kremer, Denton’s deputy director of operations. “We don’t want any issues to come up so we go out and find it ourselves before anyone else finds it.” Particular attention is being paid to bridges, where surfaces typically freeze first when temperatures drop. Kremer says motorists can do their part too, to be safe. “Take your time, don’t be in a rush,” he said. “Get there when you get there, and if you don’t have to be out don’t go out.”
