Bryan Man Charged in Machete Fight, Victim's Hand Cut Off

A Central Texas man has been charged with assault over a bar fight in which a machete was used to cut off another man's hand.

Bryan police say the Nov. 1 fight began inside a bar, then moved outside.

Brazos County jail records show 38-year-old Paulino Martinez of Bryan was being held Tuesday on charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and unlawful carrying of a weapon where alcohol was sold.

Online jail records don't list an attorney to speak for Martinez, who was arrested Saturday in Bexar County. He's detained without bond on a U.S. immigration hold. Martinez also faces a probation revocation count related to an earlier conviction for deadly conduct with a firearm.

Hospital officials in Bryan had no immediate information on the wounded man.
