Arlington residents and business owners could soon have to pay more for false alarms and to obtain burglar alarm permits.
The Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports the city may charge people who accidentally trip panic alarms $100. The increased fees are part of an attempt by the city to generate more revenue to balance the budget.
The current fine is $50 after the third and fourth offense in a one-year period, with more offenses drawing higher fines.
The city is also considering raising commerical alarm permit fees from $50 to $100. Residential fees are capped at $50 by the state.
Anyone operating an alarm in the city must have a permit or face a fine.
