American Airlines is suing the company that provides its in-flight music in a dispute over royalties.
The Fort Worth-based airline filed a lawsuit against Inflight Productions USA Inc. in Tarrant County District Court, claiming Inflight is responsible for obtaining all licenses and paying music royalty fees.
American said it was recently informed by Sony Music Entertainment that the airline had not paid performance fees and was infringing on its intellectual property rights.
The lawsuit asks a judge to declare that IFP -- and not American Airlines -- is responsible for such payments.
American and Inflight signed a contract in September 2012 to provide movies, television shows and music for passengers, the lawsuit said.
In October, Sony sued United Airlines and Inflight Productions in a similar dispute over copyright infringement, claiming United did not pay for music by artists including Elvis Presley and Aretha Franklin, according to Courthouse News Service.
A spokesman for IFP, which is based in El Segundo, California, did not immediately return a call for comment.
