Community Conversations: Recruiting Black Male Teachers

NBC 5 is continuing the conversation about racial equality and what can be done to see effective change in North Texas and across the country. Despite students of color representing more than half the student population in America, black males make up only 2% percent of the teacher workforce. NBC 5’s Kristi Nelson talks to Juan Vega, the principal at Onesimo Hernandez school in Dallas ISD, Nakia Douglas, the executive director or TRIO & Pre-Collegiate Programs at UNT Dallas and Dr. Lisa Hobson, the interim dean of the School of Education at UNT Dallas about efforts to recruit and regain more black men in the field of education.
