German Tortoises Make Their Way To Summer Home

Dresden, Germany Zoo’s four Aldabra giant tortoises made their way from their winter quarters to their summer grounds Friday. The tortoises started their long walk in the morning. For the approximately 260-foot trek, they needed about an hour, with rests in between and petting by the keepers as encouragement. The tropical reptiles require constant temperatures of over 77 degrees Fahrenheit. They had this while kept indoors, invisible to visitors since September.
