The Texas Rangers announced that the club has signed left-handed pitcher C.J. Wilson to a contract for the 2009 season. Wilson had been eligible for arbitration.
With the signing of Wilson, Texas now has just one remaining arbitration-eligible player: outfielder Marlon Byrd.
Right-handed pitcher Brandon McCarthy (Thursday) and right-handed pitcher Frank Francisco (last night), who had both been eligible for arbitration, have already signed 2009 contracts.
Wilson, 28, went 2-2 with 24 saves and a 6.02 ERA (31 ER/46.1 IP) in 50 relief appearances for Texas last season. His season was cut short with arthroscopic surgery to remove bone spurs in his left elbow in mid-August.
He became just the 11th different pitcher with a 20-save season for the Rangers as his 38 career saves is the most by a left-hander in club history.
