Try This Sangiovese From Texas Winemaking's First James Beard Award Semifinalist

We're raising a glass of the 2017 McPherson Sangiovese to Kim McPherson, winemaker and founder of McPherson Cellars, in Lubbock. Recently, he was named a 2019 James Beard Award semifinalist in the Outstanding Wine, Spirits or Beer Producer category.McPherson was among the first in Texas to produce a 100-percent sangiovese wine. Since the release of the initial 1998 vintage, he has called sangiovese the winery's flagship varietal wine (the winery makes 23 different wines, including blends). McPherson's late father, "Doc" McPherson, a pioneer of the modern Texas wine industry, gets credit for introducing sangiovese vines to Texas. He planted Tuscan, Antinori estate clones at the family's Sagmor vineyard 34 years ago.
