The ACLU Wants to Play a Big Role in Dallas' District Attorney Race

A new battle line is being drawn in next year's Dallas County district attorney's race, which is already shaping up to be interesting.The American Civil Liberties Union of Texas is taking bold steps to make criminal justice reform - namely ending mass incarceration - the centerpiece of the DA's election.The effort is part of a national ACLU Campaign for Smart Justice initiative -- first launched in Philadelphia where the DA's race will be settled next week -- aimed at cutting the U.S. prison and jail population in half.Dallas is ground zero in the ACLU's bid to spread this vitally important campaign across Texas, which has one of the highest yearly incarceration rates in the country and runs the largest prison system in the nation.  Continue reading...
