Texas DPS Intelligence Chief Charged With Sexual Assault, Fired

The chief of the Texas Department of Public Safety's intelligence and counterterrorism division was fired Tuesday after his arrest on a sexual assault charge.John M. Jones, 45, was arrested Tuesday evening by the Travis County Sheriff's Office and the Texas Rangers. He remained in the Travis County jail Wednesday, with bail set at $750,000.A woman told police that Jones invited her to a party at his house, then took her to a secluded area in the woods and violently raped her July 20, according to an arrest-warrant affidavit obtained by KVUE-TV. He said "I know it's wrong" and warned her not to tell anyone, the woman told police.The accuser was covered in bruises when she arrived at an emergency room, according to the affidavit.Jones has worked for DPS since September 2009, according to his LinkedIn page, and previously served as a commanding officer in the Navy."The department takes allegations like this very seriously, and the Texas Rangers are working closely with the Travis County District Attorney's Office and the Travis County Sheriff's Office, which is leading this investigation," DPS said in a written statement.  Continue reading...
