Oral Arguments in Sanctuary Cities Case Set for Sept. 22

Please check back later for updates.The U.S. 5th Circuit Court of Appeals will hear oral arguments Sept. 22 in the state's case against an order blocking Texas from implementing its ban on so-called sanctuary cities.Attorney General Ken Paxton had filed a motion with the appeals court Tuesday to stay the order from a federal district court, asking for a response within two days. The court will hold a full hearing in the case Nov. 6.In a 94-page ruling last week, U.S. District Judge Orlando Garcia blocked provisions in the law that required local law enforcement departments to comply with federal requests to hold unauthorized immigrants in their custody. He also blocked a part of the law that said local departments couldn't implement policies that would "materially limit" the enforcement of immigration laws.  Continue reading...
