More Than 100 Texas Gas Stations Slapped With Price-gouging Violations

AUSTIN — More than 100 businesses in Texas have been accused of taking advantage of consumers who were trying to fill their tanks as Hurricane Harvey ravaged the state. The attorney general’s Consumer Protection Division sent violation notices to 127 Texas gas stations accused of price gouging. All the cases involve complaints made against stations that allegedly charged $3.99 or higher per gallon of unleaded gas.“At the outset of Harvey, I made it clear that my office would not tolerate price gouging of vulnerable Texans by any individuals or businesses looking to profit from the hurricane,” Attorney General Ken Paxton said in a news release. “We’ve given 127 alleged offenders an opportunity to resolve these issues with our office or face possible legal action for violating state law.
