Flower Power: Bluebonnets Drew Crowds for Photo Fiesta in the Late 1930s

Editor's note: Take a look back into The Dallas Morning News archives. On March 7, 1901, the bluebonnet was established as the state flower of Texas. But it wasn't until 1938 when the era of bluebonnet photo shoots began. The Blue Bonnet Photo Fiesta, which took place in the city of Marlin, became the the event where camera addicts would travel far and wide to take photos of the vast field of flowers. But these photos weren't just for personal use to show off. Every year, there was a Blue Bonnet Fiesta photo competition where the best images were chosen.
