Dallas Police Officer Fired After Investigation Into 2015 Hit-and-run Accident

A Dallas police officer was fired Wednesday after an investigation into a hit-and-run that he caused. On Aug. 14, 2015, Sr. Cpl. Stephen Catina was driving his personal vehicle on the Dallas North Tollway when he bumped the front quarter panel of another vehicle while trying to pass, police said. Catina, who was assigned to the field services division, reportedly kept driving. The other driver took down his license plate number and called 911. He later turned himself in at the Farmers Branch Police Department and was charged with accident involving damage to a vehicle. An internal affairs investgation into the incident also found that three days later, Catina used city equipment for non-city business, police said. Interim Dallas police Chief David Pughes terminated Catina during a hearing Wednesday. Catina, a veteran officer hired in January 1997, can appeal the decision.   Continue reading...
