Dallas Man Arrested After Fire Officials Say He Set Blaze at Oak Cliff Apartments

Authorities arrested a Dallas man Tuesday on suspicion of setting a fire at an east Oak Cliff apartment building two days earlier.Kelvin Johnson, 40, faces a charge of arson of a habitation. He was being held at the Dallas County Jail on Wednesday, with bail set at $100,000.Firefighters found "heavy fire" in a stairwell at the Good Haven Apartments in the 1100 block of South High Hill Place, near South Corinth Street Road, on Sunday, Dallas Fire-Rescue spokesman Jason Evans said.After they extinguished the fire, investigators determined someone had started the blaze in a stairwell.Some residents on the upper floor of the building had to escape from their windows, Evans said. No injuries were reported, but at least 13 people — including six children — were displaced from four damaged apartments.Evans said Johnson is suspected in a second fire at the same apartment complex earlier this month.  Continue reading...
