Dallas ISD is considering renaming an elementary school that honors a politician with ties to the Confederacy and the Ku Klux Klan.This week, the district’s board of trustees received a name change request from campus volunteers and school leadership at Oak Cliff’s Roger Q. Mills Elementary.The campus -- which will be converted into a magnet school for talented and gifted students in the fall -- has asked to be renamed “Trinity Heights Gifted and Talented School.”Lester Houston, the president of the Zoo Creek Park Neighborhood Association -- one of the organizers for the name change -- said his community had been working on the issue for the past seven months.
