Amazon Lands in Lancaster With Huge New Distribution Center

Digital retailing giant Amazon has quietly leased another huge distribution center - this one in Lancaster.Seattle-based Amazon - which has gotten lots of attention lately with its search for a second headquarters location - has rented space in a new 920,000-square-foot warehouse building off Dallas Road south of Interstate 20.The Amazon fulfillment center is one of a half dozen major distribution centers the Seattle-based online retailer operates in North Texas.It's just south of another big Amazon shipping center on I-30 at J.J. Lemmon Road.Amazon also has major fulfillment centers in Coppell, North Fort Worth and Haslet in Denton County.While the new distribution center is still under construction, Amazon has already begun hiring for the big warehouse in the DalParc Logistics Center."We are still hiring for this facility as we are for others in the D-FW Metroplex," Amazon's Ashley Robinson said in an email. "The facility launched operations in mid-September."Gordon Highlander Construction Management is finishing out the interior of the warehouse.The Amazon center is just down the block from where cosmetics retailer L'Oreal Group built its $17 million, 500,000-square-foot North Texas regional distribution center.Amazon's industrial building is the first phase of a 164-acre logistics park Kansas City-based VanTrust Real Estate is building in southern Dallas County. The project is planned for more than 2.5 million square feet.The Amazon lease is one of the biggest deals so far this year in the I-20 corridor.It's even bigger than online furnishing retailer Wayfair's distribution center coming on Interstate 35E near Wintergreen Road.
