84-year-old Texas Woman Charged in Husband's Fatal Shooting 35 Years Ago

Leon County Sheriff's deputies arrested an 84-year-old woman suspected of fatally shooting her husband 35 years ago. Norma Allbritton has been charged with murder in the 1984 death of Johnnie Allbritton. She was taken into custody July 1, the sheriff's office said. Johnnie Allbritton was shot twice in the chest and three times in the back with his own 20-gauge shotgun, in his home near Buffalo, about 110 miles southeast of Dallas, the Buffalo Express reported in 2014.The case was reviewed after an episode of the TNT show Cold Justice contributed its own investigator, a retired district attorney and other expertise, KXAS-TV (NBC5) reported. The sheriff's office has not revealed the evidence that led to Allbritton's arrest. She posted bail and was released July 3.John Allbritton was a widow when he married Norma, who had been his late wife's caregiver, according to _Leon County Today. _Three years before he was killed, his 13-year-old daughter died in what was ruled then as a suicide.At the time, police theorized that a Johnnie Allbritton surprised a burglar who likely knew him. The burglar shot him to avoid being identified, according to the Buffalo Express.
