3 ‘related' Rapes Reported at Baylor Residence Hall

Three rapes reported at a Baylor University residence hall Monday were related incidents involving the same individuals, according to campus police incident logs.The assaults occurred at South Russell Hall Dec. 12, Jan. 18 and Jan 20, according to the monthly crime logs."Please be assured that we have assessed the threat and addressed the situation according to our established policies and procedures," university officials wrote in an email to South Russell residents. "We take these allegations very seriously, and our firm commitment to our students is to ensure the safety and security of our campus community."The reports follow a slew of accusations that Baylor officials failed to properly investigate sexual assault allegations against students.In July, the school settled a lawsuit filed by a former volleyball player who said she was drugged and gang-raped by members of the football team, but that officials failed to investigate the claims or protect her from further harassment.A 2017 negligence lawsuit alleged that 31 football players had committed at least 52 rapes, including five gang rapes, between 2011 and 2014.Former Phi Delta Theta president Jacob Walter Anderson, indicted on a charge of raping a woman at a frat party in 2016, pleaded no contest to an unlawful restraint charge in December.A Baylor spokeswoman declined to comment on the current investigation.  Continue reading...
