An Agenda For Taking The Edge Off

While we're mostly concerned with what's on the plate at restaurants across the city—wine, beer, and booze are equally important, especially over the weekend. Each Friday, for your drinking pleasure, we'll highlight notable events placing potables on a pedestal.

This week and next, The Second Floor is hosting a couple booze-centric events. First up, there's a Glenmorangie Scotch tasting tonight. $40 reservations includes gourmet samplings by chefs J Chastain and Scott Gottlich, and can be made by calling 972-450-2978. If scotch isn't your thing, stop by on May 4 for a complimentary Sokol Blosser wine tasting and passed apps. Though the event is free, ressies are required.

Up next, Rich Rogers of Scardello will host a Wine vs. Beer smack down at his Oak Lawn cheese shop on May 5. There will be five rounds, each pitting a beer and wine against one cheese. Attendees decide which elixir wins. Call 214-219-1300 to make reservations for $30.

Also on May 5, chef Bruno Davaillon will pair five courses with Domaine Serene wines at The Mansion. Reservations are $175. Call 214-443-4747 to book.
