4/15: Space and Time

NOT THAT ONE: Top Chef fan favorite Casey Thompson announced in March that she'd helm the kitchen of Fort Worth's Brownstone restaurant as executive chef come early May. So you can imagine our confusion when Central Market Fort Worth listed the Casey Thompson Band as the featured artist for the store's Thursday Night Live series as early May approaches. (This Casey is male, and a law student.) But hey, we discovered the band's steely country instead, so it's cool. Hear them with the Will Callers on the patio thanks to the Fort Worth Weekly and KXT from 6-9PM.

UMBRELLA: The last time we saw quirky indie rockers The Happy Bullets, it was in an Oak Cliff warehouse space for Bolsa's rain-addled birthday party in September after shredding a tire en route. Vocalist/guitarist (and resident neighborhood advocate) Jason Roberts was predictably smart and earnest behind the mic, and the mix of piano pop, rhythm and spacey sounds made its own sunshine. See the band as they drop their awaited new album Hydropanic at the Natatorium at a cozy Good Records release party. 8PM.

REEL MEMORIES: With the renovations of the Kessler and the Texas Theatre, young Dallasites have had some great opportunities lately to learn about the glamorous spaces that defined Dallas before they were born. A nifty lecture at the Dallas Public Library's central branch revisits old movie theatres like the Esquire in Oak Lawn or the Wilshire at Skillman and Mockingbird, both gems from the 1940s. "Inside (And Outside) Dallas' Historic Movie Houses begins at 6:30PM.
