Adam Kuperstein is an award-winning journalist who anchors NBC 4 New York’s 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. daily newscasts. He moved into his current role following three years as a weekend evening anchor and weekday general assignment reporter for the station.
Kuperstein’s anchoring and reporting was a key component of NBC 4 New York’s award-winning COVID-19 coverage, honored in January, 2021 with the prestigious Alfred I. duPont-Columbia University Award for “creat(ing) a 360 view in real time of the coronavirus pandemic, with courageous and thorough reporting on the virus’s explosion in New York City.” The duPont has long been recognized as the broadcast, documentary and on-line equivalent of the Pulitzer Prize, also awarded by Columbia University.
Additionally, Kuperstein was the first local television reporter to report live from the scene of December 2019’s deadly Jersey City shootout. Describing the unfolding events in real-time during breaking news coverage, Kuperstein’s field reporting was recognized by the Radio Television Digital News Association (RTDNA), which awarded NBC 4 New York the 2020 National Edward R. Murrow Award for “Top Television Newscast,” as well as two Regional Awards for “Breaking News Coverage” and “Team Coverage.”
Kuperstein has covered many memorable news stories including, in January 2021 he reported from the U.S. Capitol riots that interrupted the certification of the 2020 Presidential election an d in October 2018, he reported from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania following the deadly anti-Semitic attack at Tree of Life Synagogue. He spoke with members of the Steel City’s faith community and interviewed Tri-State officials attending the Squirrel Hill memorial service. He also reported from Parkland, Florida in February 2018, following the deadly mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School. He spent several days on the ground covering the response and community impact. One month later, he again spoke with Marjory Stoneman victims, their families and student supporters from the Tri-State at the “March for our Lives” rally in Washington, D.C. He has also covered Hurricanes Irma and Dorian in Florida, the deadly 2018 Trump Tower inferno in Manhattan and was awarded a New York Emmy® for anchoring team coverage of the January 4, 2018 Tri-State blizzard.
Prior to arriving in New York, Kuperstein worked as a weekday news and sports anchor for NBC6 / WTVJ in South Florida for more than a decade. At WTVJ, Kuperstein covered three presidential elections and reported from the 2012 presidential debate at Lynn University. He also led the station’s sports coverage, including live reports from the 2016 Rio Olympics.
Kuperstein has worked as the weekend sports anchor for Fox affiliate WUPW-TV in Toledo, Ohio, as well as at WHIZ-TV, the NBC affiliate in Zanesville, Ohio. He is a graduate of Syracuse University's S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications and earned a dual bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Journalism and Finance. He resides with his family in Manhattan.
