Community Conversation: Transforming Underserved Communities

The construction that is underway at I-45 and Martin Luther King Boulevard will be a market, offering groceries to help alleviate food desert issues in the “Forest District,” up the street from Fair Park and near the famous Forest Theater. That project, among others, is one of many underways to transform this historic, predominantly Black neighborhood into a model of equitable development. In today’s Community Conversation, NBC 5 spoke with the Real Estate Council and its community partners, Cornerstone Baptist Church and St. Philip’s School about their vision to transform this underserved community into a safe and revitalized neighborhood for people of all income levels, and how grants from JP Morgan Chase and AT&T are helping.
